The Thandi Story

Thandi was established in 1999 as South Africa’s first economic empowerment experiment in the agriculture sector. The main purpose of the Thandi project was to uplift and empower previously disadvantaged communities out of poverty to a better life. Mainly export driven with 85% of sales go into Europe. In 2003 Thandi became the world’s first Fairtrade certified wine brand. Thandi Wines is 59% owned by 250 farm worker families who own 3 vineyard farms. As from 1 April 2013 two more wine brands  i.e. Kumkani and 10 Chapters will join the company.
